You’ve found the perfect wedding dress, a beautiful venue and planning is well under way for your one-of-a-kind dream day. There is one looming situation: Choosing the bridesmaid dresses.
Everyone has either heard of – or been – the girl in the wedding with the unflattering, uncomfortable dresses. Keep this in mind when deciding upon a color and style for your friends. And remember, times have changed a lot since mom and dad’s wedding! Bridesmaids are no longer restricted to wearing one dress or even one color. Be considerate of your bridesmaids’ opinions, but also keep in mind that this is your big day. Find a dress (or dresses) you love and work with your girls to make sure everyone feels comfortable and is ready to dance the night away.
Before setting out to try on dresses as a group, there are a few thoughts the bride should contemplate. Think about the style of your gown, your wedding colors and overall theme. Research some bridesmaid dress styles you love. If you are planning to allow your girls some leeway on color or style, decide on what is appropriate and not appropriate before broaching the topic with them. Guidelines will make shopping much easier for everyone involved.
Now that you know what you are looking for, it’s time to bring in the girls! The first thought on their minds is going to be cost, so take the time to talk to each of your bridesmaids individually about this. When put in a big group, no one wants to be the one to object to the number on the price tag. Once a comfortable budget is established, head to a bridal boutique well within your price range. Keep in mind that dresses will probably have to be altered and that shoes and accessories must be purchased as well. For a local, Rockwall Texas shop, we recommend Providence Place Bridal.
When you reach the boutique, have a plan in place. Choose a few dress styles that you love for your bridal party to try on. A handful of bridesmaids running through a shop searching for their favorite dresses are bound to create a headache. Consider the shape and size of each of your girls when placing them in a dress. Not every style will flatter each of your bridesmaids, so be flexible and opt for a cut that everyone will look and feel good in. Try an A-line skirt or empire waist; these styles tend to flatter a wide range of body shapes.
Found a few favorites? Go home and think on them for a few nights. Finalize your choice with the group and place your order. We recommend ordering all of the dresses at the same time to ensure they are from the same dye lot. Give yourself six months before the big day to allow plenty of time for your dresses to arrive and be altered. Once they are in, let your girls know so they can plan their fitting arrangements accordingly. Don’t stress if they don’t head to the shop right away, these are your closest friends and they know how important this day is to you! Avoid dress-stress by being thoughtful of your friends’ feelings, but keep in mind that the decision is ultimately yours to make.
